Apparao (Rajendra Prasad) is a poor man who manages to live his life happily by taking loans from every person he knows. He meets a pretty lady constable by name Subba Laxmi (Shobhana) and fells in love with her. He meets an astrologer by name Sastri(Brahmanandam) who sees his customer’s legs in order to predict their future. Sastri has a brother with iron leg who if present around him while he is predicting future, will always brings the opposite of what he has predicted for his customers. Once Apparao goes to Sastri for his future and to fulfill his doubt regarding marriage with Subba Laxmi. Sastri’s brother comes to meet him while Sastri predicts Apparao will get married with Subba Laxmi. Seeing his brother he realizes and informs Apparao that the opposite is going to happen and that Subba Laxmi will die if he marries her. He also explains a way around if Apparao wants to marry Subba Laxmi. The rest of the story is regarding the troubles Apparao puts in order to marry Subba Laxmi.

Baadshah is an action movie with all commercial ingredients that impress the mass. Junior NTR’s stylish and electrifying performance is the main attraction in the film. Srinu Vaitla’s interesting narration, S Thaman’s rocking music, excellent picturisation, Gopimohan and Kona Venkat’s punch dialogues and funny one-lines, Brahmanandam and MS Narayana’s rib-tickling comedy, exotic locales, beautiful costumes and a few other things are its other highlights. The biggest drawback of the film is that a few dragging moments in the first half.

Brahmanandam makes an entry in the second half of the film and it appears as a sequel to his Padmasri part in Dookudu, he tries his level best to make people laugh, especially the lines on Chatrapathi and Sivaji, the parodies are humourous. This is the only part that keeps the second half alive, rest just pales away.

Without MS and Brahmi, Baadshah is a routine story. It is not enough if four scenes are good in a cinema. It doesn’t run if two songs click. Despite knowing where his flaws lie Vaitla tries gimmicks. Nothing much to talk about Thaman’s music here, it makes noise but the song disappears in it. Song should be in tandem with the literature but not with steps.

Baadshah is simply superb. Tarak’s costumes, dance, fights and acting are the big assets of the movie

Minus points: Average story i.e same story we have seen in Dookudu kinda movies.

The film begins with an accident. Gautham (Nani) is abducted by John Abraham (Ashish Vidyarthi). On the way Gautham is forced to narrate his tale as Gautham talks of stopping a marriage and John too talks of preventing a wedding. Hence, the flashback. Gautham (Nani) is ready to propose to Simran (Kriti Kharbanda) with a bunch of red roses. But destiny has other plans. Elsewhere, Nithya (Nitya Menen) is playing cricket and hits Gautham with her shot. He is then taken to the hospital in the stretcher. Simran falls in love with the doctor treating Nani and they get married eventually. Gautham is invited and goes to the wedding but cannot face Simran. When he walks out, he gets drunk and meets a drunk Nithya who actually was in love with the doctor. They go around freaking during the night and part ways the next day. As destiny has it, they happen to meet in a pub after a few days. Gautham accompanies her everywhere. He realises he’s in love with her. But before he could tell her, he gets to know that she is already engaged. Gautham steps back and stays secluded. Nithya and her fiance end their engagement over an argument about Gautham. Unaware of this and having moved on, Gautham starts dating a veterinary doctor, Kavya, but they break up after an altercation. The rest of the story is on how Gautham and Nithya step out of their confusion and realise their love for each other.

Nani is completely natural, at home while playing the character of Gowtam. He has also shown different variations. His voice is an asset and he used it effectively. Nitya Menon should be lucky to get a role that has lots of substance in it. She epitomized Nitya character with her fabulous performance. She looks beautiful in all kinds of dresses. Nitya Menon’s is the best debut in recent years of Telugu cinema after Samantha in YMC. She dubbed her voice and it suited the character to the tee. Sneha Ullal had a reasonable length character and she is fine. Kriti Karbandha and Chaitanya Krishna did cameos. Rohini and Uppalapati Narayana Rao (film director) adds freshness to parents characters. The friends gang of hero (Mirchi Hemantha, Raja Valluru, Pinky and Rhea) is also appropriately cast. Asish Vidyardhi gave a balanced performance in a crazy character. The guy who did the the role of drunkard software engineer in climax breathed life into the scenes.
